First of all let me tell you what is Jailbreak ?

A jailbreak is simply the ability to run apps and use themes and tweaks not approved by Apple. Jailbreaking doesn’t slow down your device or use any extra battery. A jailbreak lets your device be how you want it. And jailbroken iPhone is still able to use the App Store and iTunes.

Previously there are many methods for jailbreaking iPhone like sn0wbreeze, blackra1n, redsn0w . But now ‘JailbreakMe’ got into the situation to jailbreak iPhone’s running on 3.1.2 or newer (upto iOS 4.0.1)

Here are simple steps to Jailbreak your iPhone using JailbreakMe :

iOS4 Draining the iPhone 3GS Battery Much Faster, Tips to Improve!

From 3 days i am testing the new iOS4 on iPhone 3GS. It seems the OS itself killing the battery life on phone. Other than that phone is working great.

I mean the phone  playing videos up to 7-8hrs (or) audio upto 25+hrs in a single full battery charge. But the phone loosing the 10% of battery for every 8hrs in standby mode (if there are any apps running background like GPS, Safari…)

The phone especially loosing the battery while using any app from default (SMS, Safari, GPS, Camera..) to 3rd party (Games & Apps)….

And i tested iPhone 3GS one night with out having apps running in background (by emptying the multitasking bar) .Impressive! the phone just lost 6% of battery in 8hrs.

I think i am not only the victim of iOS4, it seems 70-80% of the people upgraded to iOS4 are facing this problem. Just take a look into Apple iPhone 3GS Discussion Forum . See yourself the victims of iOS4.

Here are tips to improve your iPhone 3GS (running iOS 4) battery life :

  • Do a full restore from iTunes (if you had upgraded from iOS 3)
  • Turn off Airplane Mode
  • Turn off Bluetooth
  • Turn off Push notifications
  • Limit the use of GPS & Internet
  • Turn-off Wi-Fi
  • Better to kill apps running in background frequently
  • Turf off your phone ………….. (just kidding,…)

There is nothing we can do other than following the the above tips until apple figure out the problem and release a fix in the upcoming update (iOS 4.1/4.01).

iPhone 3GS : Thoughts & Impressions on my first iPhone

First of all let me say a big thanks to Apple for making this wonderful piece of art. I am so happy to tell you that i have an iPhone now. I bought an iPhone 3GS 2 days ago..

Well, you may ask “Why iPhone 3GS .. as iPhone 4 is out there? ”

As i am from India iPhone 4 only comes here after a couple of months. Everybody know waiting is painful especially in the case of “iPhone”. and i am dreaming of it from years. So i finally decided to buy iPhone 3GS (16GB Black) in an Airtel Store (Official iPhone Sellers in India) for Rs.35500/- INR .

iPhone 3GS

3 Days with iPhone 3GS :

Day 1 :

  • Bought the iPhone 3GS in Airtel Store for 35,500 (Airtel SIM Locked)
  • Brought it to room for activation. Then i came to know that iPhone only activates with SIM inserted.
  • So i rushed for a fancy Airtel number for my fancy iPhone 3GS. Finally after 2hrs of search in 20+ mobile stores got a number ends with “650506″.
  • Immediately returned to room & activated the phone.
  • Shocked the iPhone gave me a warm welcome in my native language (Shubabivandanamulu)
  • iPhone doesn’t need any settings to activate internet ,it started displaying “E” shows that it has access to Edge service from my service provider (Airtel)
  • Kept the phone for a couple of hours for its first full charge.
  • Then updated the phone with latest iOS4
  • Shocking …(this time nothing good) phone’s battery is discharging much faster than i expected. I saw that percentage went down in front of my eyes.
  • Really frustrated…thought it was the defective battery

Day 2 :

  • Entire day i tested the phone on various things. Came to know that battery going down completely after every 5 hrs of heavy usage (like GPS,browsing, gaming…)
  • In the mean time i received the SwitchEasy Vulcan Case for iPhone 3GS which i have ordered on ebay.in for Rs.1500 INR
  • The pack includes a Case made of ultra durable scratch resistant Hydro Polymer material & 2 screen protectors. After dressing up my iPhone with this case , i thought this is the best case for iPhone 3GS even though it costs higher. The following picture shows how iPhone 3GS looks in SwitchEasy Vulcan Case.

SwitchEasy Vulcan Case for iPhone

  • Photos taken with iPhone 3GS 3.0 mega pixel camera are very impressive. The photos are even looking greater than photos taken with Sony Ericsson 5.0 mega pixel camera.
  • I took Rs.250 internet plan from Airtel where i get 8GB worth of browsing & downloading for 3 months. But after a couple of hours of browsing i came to know that 1GB is more than enough for a month.
  • GPS on iPhone working great and it is much accurate than i expected. Its even showing me in which direction (N -E -W -S) i was stood. The distance between the places it is showing is also pretty accurate.

Day 3 :

  • Went to Airtel store and i didn’t get much help from them.
  • So called the customer care, they said “we don’t have enough information regarding iPhone service” and instructed me to call Airtel head office located in Begumpet, Hyderabad. There i didn’t get a considerable help from those people from head office.
  • Then i googled that problem about “iPhone 3GS battery problem” . There i saw no. of comments blaming iOS4 that draining the battery on iPhone 3GS.
  • So i tested the phone on both audio & video. Impressive! the phone consumed only 8-10% of battery every hour while playing a high quality video & it consumed 3-4% of battery every hour while playing mp3.
  • Then i understood that iOS4 is the devil that consuming the iPhone 3GS battery and making matters worse.

Steve Jobs already replied “nope’ on iOS4 with iPhone 3GS battery problems. But still hoping apple gonna fix it soon for keeping it reliability & customer satisfaction.
